My Methodology

Any pet owner knows that there's nothing quite like the bond between a human and a dog. They are relentlessly loyal, wonderfully loving, and always seem to know when you need some cheering up. That being said, sometimes the language barrier between humans and dogs can disrupt our otherwise idyllic relationship. From small misunderstandings to catastrophic misconceptions, there are many ways miscommunications can happen. My goal is to pave the way for natural, healthy communication between you and your dog, so you can enjoy each others' company, language barrier-free.

My methods are based in science and compassion, with a focus on safe, sensible solutions. I train through the use of many techniques, all of which are centered on using food, toys, or life rewards to motivate and shape your dog’s behavior.

But be warned- I won’t just be training your dog, I’ll be training you too! Much of dog training is showing the humans how to handle and respond to their dog, so be prepared to listen and learn. There is no such thing as a "quick fix" in dog training (and if someone claims to have one, I'd be very suspicious)! That being said, incredible results await those who practice, and with a little bit of patience and a whole lot of love, you and your dog can achieve some amazing things!

What Does Training Include?

As one of my clients, I will work my hardest to provide you with satisfying and successful results. To do this, we will start with an over the phone strategy session where we will discuss what you would like to work on with your dog. Once we've decided what the game plan is, we'll take payment, book your first lesson, and go over your dog's history. During our first lesson, we'll go over all of your goals in detail as well as work on some simple tips to get you started. But the training doesn't stop when I go home! After each session I will email you a review of what we went over, as well as suggested training to work on until our next meeting. This means that not only will you receive personalized one on one lessons with me, but you will also receive my wide range of support systems! From recommended treats to personalized activities to suggested readings, I will provide you with every tool to help you and your dog succeed. And if at any time between sessions you have questions or concerns regarding your dog's training, you can always email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. So... what will you need to start training? Read on to find out.

What Will You Need?

  • A non-retractable, flat leash.
  • A flat collar, martingale collar, harness, or head halter. No choke chains, prong/pinch collars, or shock collars allowed.
  • Treats of varying value: boring kibble, pretty good treats, and your dogs absolute FAVORITE treats.
  • Proof of your dog's up to date vaccinations (DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies)
  • Patience, love, and the commitment to work hard to achieve your desired results!

My Rules

Consistency is key with training, so I do have a few rules for our sessions.

  • No leash corrections of any kind, no yelling, and absolutely no physical punishment allowed.
  • I encourage the whole family to participate, especially children, but I do recommend considering the individual attention spans of your own children before having them participate in our lessons.
  • Payment must be made within 24 hours of booking an appointment.
  • Any cancellations need 12 hours advance notice or the lesson will be forfeit.
  • Real dog training requires patience and understanding, all egos must be left at the door! :-)
